Abstract:
The Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging as the next technology mega-trend. By connecting billions of everyday devices to the Internet, it opens up a host of new opportunities and challenges for companies, governments, and consumers. Crowdsensing, a new paradigm of applications as well as a new business model in the IoT era, enables ubiquitous sensing devices, ranging from wearables to industrial equipment, to collect and to share local information towards a common goal, such as environmental monitoring, indoor mapping, wellbeing, and public safety. In this talk, we will discuss the emerging mobile crowdsensing applications, and the performance and scalability challenges these applications pose to the cloud infrastructure. We will also present two example applications, including edge analytics of crowdsourced video, and smartphone-based indoor mapping and navigation.
