Although valuable informationcan be gleaned from them in principle, these sources are under‐utilized both by consumers andbusinesses due to their unstructured nature and low ratio of useful information to the large amountof data. It is a challenge to develop technology that makes use of these so called Big Data. At USERgroup of IBM Research ‐ Almaden, we address the challenge by focusing on understanding andmodeling people in order to derive actionable insights. Several related projects will be discussed.
